Humans threaten wildlife through harassment, habitat degradation, encroachment and destruction, cruel and irresponsible looking and trapping, capture and killing for profit, incidental poisoning and vehicle strikes, and culling. AWI works to safeguard wild animals and their habitats, and decrease or remove the impacts of detrimental human actions. We urge governments and different policymakers to halt or forestall damaging actions by calling for higher enforcement of wildlife safety legal guidelines, promoting severe penalties for wildlife criminals, and supporting increased funding for federal land and wildlife administration agencies. We advocate for humane solutions to human-wildlife conflicts, and engage and educate the general public on ways to assist wildlife.
It is as if there was a pool of hundreds of okapis, or white rhinos, or snow leopards which might be launched with a rare success fee. Astonishingly, about 12,000 of these Asian elephants are largely ignored by governments and stay personal property pure and easy.
